Ien Ev Vrët (/jen/ /ev/ [dim] [curve]) is a temperate Town located in the Skruvnōk Moot of the Viceroyalty of Rosid.

The name Ien Ev Vrët is derived from the Wood Elvish language, as Ien Ev Vrët was founded by Nrë Bhineiris, who was culturaly Wood Elven.

Climate

Ien Ev Vrët has a yearly average temperature of 7°C (44°F), with its average temperature during the summer being an icy 26°C (78°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a freezing -12°C (11°F). Ien Ev Vrët receives an average of 275 cm/y (108 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of snow during the pleasantly short winter months. Ien Ev Vrët covers an area of nearly 6 km2 (2 mi2), and an average elevation of 2878 m (9442 ft) above sea level.

Overview

Ien Ev Vrët was founded durring the late 10th century, by Nrë Bhineiris. The establishment of Ien Ev Vrët was somewhat plagued by a lack of willing colonists, leading to Nrë Bhineiris electing to pay people to resettle in Ien Ev Vrët.

Ien Ev Vrët was built using the conventions of Wood Elven durring the late 10th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Ien Ev Vrët is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature waddle and daub construction with good timber frames and a stone foundation protected by thatched or shingled rooves. Most buildings with second floors are built in such a way as to overhang into the streets on the upper floors for more space, as building size seems to be the primary indicator of wealth within the community. Most buildings are not decorated with any integral features, but instead use ivy, flowers, and other natural elements in planters of on trellices to breathe life into the structure they grow upon.

Ien Ev Vrët is was constructed arround several narrow flagstone mainstreets which cross one another at certain axies, with smaller streets branching off of them to premit acess to the many buildings deeper into the road network. The overall fashion is remenessent of a circulatory system, or other organic construct, and is quite effishent in its design. The town posesses a mighty albit amaturly crafted stone wall. It was built using querried stone blocks and posesses all of the standard defencive features, including a few watch towers. While it would last against a siege, the wall's outdated and simplistic construction method percludes the possability of Ien Ev Vrët weathering a full scale bombardment durring a siege. The town's budget focused millitary grade defenses are visibly old, but also obviously maintained semi-regularly. Its likly the local malishia or garrison are tasked with ocasional mantance of the towns defences.

Ien Ev Vrët has the unmistakable air of a town on its last legs. Everything is a bit slipshod and ramshackle. Everyone is at work, or drinking. No one has anything in their eyes other than fear and despair. Whatever industry once fueled Ien Ev Vrët ’s existence has dried up and the town is drifting down the stream of history as it dries up. On top of this is an unmistakable feeling that Ien Ev Vrët is in this condition because there is something terribly wrong with the town. Maybe it’s the way fog blankets the ground, but only in the connors of places. Maybe it’s the vermin scuttling between shadows in the corner of your eyes. Perhaps it’s the overcast sky which seemed to creep out of nowhere, or the distant howling of wolves. Maybe it’s all of those things together, or perhaps it's the way these elements combine which makes you worry someone might stab you in a dark ally for your boots. It’s not filthy, or dark, but the smiles seem strained, the locals seem to glare daggers in eachothers backs a little too much, and everyone is armed at all times. You may want to keep an eye on your valuables, and make sure you don’t wind up in any position of power. Regardless, you do not feel it would be wise to remain in Ien Ev Vrët long.

Civic Infrastructure

Ien Ev Vrët has an Office of Civil Groundskeeping, which works to enforce local ordinances relating to the construction and upkeep up of all plant life, water features, and other natural decorations within Ien Ev Vrët. They are also responsible for the maintenance of these features. Notably, the OCG is not responsible for Ien Ev Vrët's parks.

Ien Ev Vrët has an Office of Civil Vicary, which is responsible for providing a livelyhood for all officialy recognised religious figures within Ien Ev Vrët.

Ien Ev Vrët has a Gravedigger's Guild, which is responsible for collecting the dead and laying them to rest according to all applicable laws and religious customs.

Ien Ev Vrët has a Highwayman's Guild, which is tasked with maintaining the roads and highways leading into town as well as keeping them safe for travelers.

Ien Ev Vrët has a monistary of an order of Civil Monks, who provide divine-related services to the general public and maintain Ien Ev Vrët's public wards, blessings, and other arcane systems.

Ien Ev Vrët possesses a Galvanic Power Grid, which brings galvanic current to most if not all buildings in town, and permits a great many consumer goods to function within the Town. Ien Ev Vrët's grid is powered by mana accumulators.

Ien Ev Vrët's old civil lighting system was converted to Galvanic Lamps recently, and expanded to provide nighttime illumination to all city streets.

Ien Ev Vrët has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands. They are not to be confused with the Office of Civil Groundskeeping as they do not hold authority over nor responsibility for Ien Ev Vrët's natural decorations nor waterways.

Ien Ev Vrët has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.

Ien Ev Vrët has a public septic system, which allows its citizens to have indoor bathrooms. The septic system is overseen by the League of Sewerkeepers, who posses the legal authority to enforce all laws relating to the septic system, and are also tasked with its maintenance and upkeep.

Cultural Notes

Ien Ev Vrët's town hall was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used is characterized by order, symmetry, formal design, grandiosity, and elaborate ornamentation. Architectural characteristics include balustrades, balconies, columns, cornices, pilasters, and triangular pediments. Stone exteriors are massive and grandiose in their symmetry; interiors are typically polished and lavishly decorated with sculptures, swags, medallions, flowers, and shields. Interiors will often have a grand stairway and opulent ballroom..

In Ien Ev Vrët hail is always enormous, yet harmlessly plinks off people, creatures, and structures.

The Chaneque near Ien Ev Vrët are known to be almost tame, such that they can be put to domestic use.

Ien Ev Vrët's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in summer and involves destroying a prepared ritual vessel to channel Augury energies of tier 1 via divine sermons.

Ien Ev Vrët's residents established a new industry (8889 % 6)+1 years ago, and it’s making them a great deal of profit. Old patterns of authority and wealth are being disrupted, and the old gentry are unlikely to be pleased about it. They may be trying to take over the industry, or they may have been the ones to enable it in the first place and are using it to crush the life out of any rival power bases. Outsiders might be playing a major role as well, and it could be they plot to siphon off the profits.

In time immemorial, reportedly some time during the early 2nd century Mount Calamity, an iconic vista located neare Ien Ev Vrët, proved to be volcanic when the mountain erupted. The eruption was isolated to the area around Ien Ev Vrët, which was swallowed in ash, lava flows, and pyroclastic gasses. Ien Ev Vrët lost 272 people, 159 livestock, and 29 buildings in the disaster. The event is forever remembered as the Day of Calamity's Wrath.
